With just three days left for the elections, Pakistan
Tehrik-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan was wounded in his head after falling off a
forklift that was taking him on to a stage an election rally in Lahore on Tuesday.
Three of his guard, to, where injured in the mishap. Khan got 16 stitches on
the back of his head.
Asad umer, a prominent PTI leader, said khan’s condition was
stable. He said doctors stitched wounds to the front and back of his head. The
footage aired by TV stations showed party supporters rushing a bloodied Khan to
Shaukat Khanum hospital in a semi-conscious state. Khan was first taken to the
city’s government-run Jinnah hospital but later shifted to the hospital that
the cricketer-turned-politician had got build in his mother’s memory. “Khan had
as many as 16 stitches due to the injuries he sustained at the back of his
head,” hospital authorities said. Asked if Khan would come back to address the
rally, Asad Umer said, “Being a brave man, Khan Sahib may want to do so, but we
will not allow him to do this tonight.”
Mr Khan is one of the open candidates in the election, and
the PTI has been getting momentum, our correspondent adds. He believes a
"tsunami" of support will take him to strength.
Three hours after the accident, the PTI leader spoke to a
local television station from his hospital bed, wearing a blue gown and looking
drained.
"I have done my best that whatever I can," he told
to Dunya TV. "Now people of Pakistan have to decide whether they want to
make a new Pakistan or not."
"You people have to come out for your rights on 11
May." Let’s hope for the best.
